Streetlight Outages

The distribution crews are also responsible for repair and maintenance of approximately 1750 street lights.  The majority of the City's lights utilize high-pressure sodium, energy efficient bulbs designed and installed to provide a safe level of illumination on the roadways.  As part of the City's energy saving policies, crews have begun replacing the sodium lights with energy efficient LED lights, which are less costly energy-wise and longer lasting than the sodium lights.

Street light problems can be reported via by submitting a Service Request, by e-mail to the Utilities Department, or by phone to the Utilities Department, 913-856-0980, or the after hours phone number, 913-856-6802.

Tree Trimming Program

The Electric Distribution Supervisor oversees and administers the on-going tree trimming program, created to provide an annual process to maintain line and right-of-way clearance with a four-year trim cycle.
