The Engineering Division is involved in the management, design, construction, administration, and review of all capital projects and development containing infrastructure. Engineering staff also does long-term planning of infrastructure for projected growth, plan reviews of new developments, coordination of utilities, and is often the City's liaison between federal, state and local agencies.

The City of Gardner has partnered with the Johnson County Stormwater Management Program to provide up to $10,000 for a Stormwater Best Management Program (BMP's) Cost-Share Program. This program is a new way to help control the impacts of stormwater runoff. The Engineering staff maintains and updates the Speed Limit Map, the Traffic Count Map, and the Truck Route Map as determined necessary and appropriate by engineering and traffic investigations and codes.
