Mayor and City Council
The City of Gardner is a Mayor-Council form of government.  The Mayor and the five Council members are elected at-large.  The City Council hires the City Administrator who is responsible for the enforcement of codes and policies implemented by the boverning body.

The Mayor and City Council are the governing body of the City of Gardner, responsible for establishing and enforcing all municipal laws and ensuring that municipal services meet the desires of the community.  The Mayor and Council formulate policies guiding the operation of the City organization. The Mayor, with the consent of the Council, appoints members to the City's various boards and commissions.


The responsibilities of the City Council include:

  • Enacting ordinances for the proper governing of the City
  • Approving changes in the Municipal Code as required
  • Adopting the annual budget and related financial documents; awarding municipal contracts
  • Establishing all other policies necessary to promote the health, safety and welfare of the City and its residents
  • Appointing the City Administrator and representing the City to the public and other governmental bodies
     

City Council Meeting Times

The Gardner City Council meets the first and third Mondays of the month at 7:00 pm in the City Hall Council Chambers.  Work sessions are scheduled on an as needed basis.  All meetings are open to the public.  City Council Agendas and Meeting Minutes are available online.

Public Service Applications are always welcomed by the City Clerk and shall be kept for a period of one calendar year. The City Clerk will call upon the City Council to submit the names of potential candidates should there be no applications for appointment on file.
