The City of Gardner has experienced tremendous growth in recent years, based on percentage growth, which was 104% from 2000 to 2010. Today, Gardner is home to over 19,100 residents. Having a desire to manage that growth responsibly, the City works in close partnership with the Southwest Johnson County Economic Development Corporation (SJCEDC) .

SJCEDC is the City’s source for certain statistical and demographic information useful in obtaining favorable financial ratings and in predicting growth. In addition, the organization provides services to assist in attracting new employers to our City.

Since 2006, the City completed 17 major construction projects to meet the needs of its rapidly growing population. These projects included new business develpments, park facilities and infrastructure, such as  water towers and major street improvements. Several more projects are underway in 2009 including the widening of Moonlight Road to relieve traffic congestion. The City appropriately manages the debt associated with these projects and continues to maintain an A-2 rating from Moody’s Investor’s Service.
