Code Enforcement / Property Maintenance
The City of Gardner is committed to providing a safe, clean, and attractive community.
City staff investigate complaints and enforce the City codes regarding property maintenance issues, such as:

Tall Grass and Vegetation Junk and Debris Placement of temporary
"garage sale" type signs

Storage of trailers and recreational vehicles.

Residents may contact the Codes Administrator at 913-856-0913 for further information or to report violations. Upon a formal complaint, the inspector will inspect the property to determine any violations, and a letter will be sent to the property owner stating the violation and time allowed to correct the problem. Failure to comply with City ordinances may result in fines or abatement cost attachments to the property, as set forth by the City code.
Please note that complaints regarding trailers, recreational vehicles, or other items in the street, rather than on private property, should be directed to the Public Safety Department at (913) 856-7312. In addition, any complaints regarding inoperable or unlicensed vehicles should also be directed to the Public Safety Department.
Inoperable Vehicles
Inoperable Vehicles are described as vehicles being junked, wrecked, wholly or partially dismantled, discarded, abandoned or unable to perform the functions or purpose for which it was originally constructed. Presumptions for a vehicle being inoperable also include:
* Absence of an effective registration plate or decal
* Placement of the vehicle or parts thereof upon jacks, blocks, chains or other support
* If you have any questions regarding this ordinance or regarding inoperable vehicle contact the Gardner Department of Public Safety at 856-7312.
The inoperable and abandoned vehicle definitions can be located in the Gardner Municipal Code Chapter 10.20 - INOPERABLE AND ABANDONED VEHICLES.
Parking Complaints
All motor vehicles must be legally parked on all city streets and shall be moved every 48 to 72 hours. If the vehicle is not moved within this time frame the vehicle could be deemed as inoperable if parked on a city street or highway. No large trucks or semi trucks are allowed to be parked or driven on residential streets at any time. No trailers, including construction trailers, shall be parked on a city street at any time. Burning of Leaves and Brush
Contact Johnson County Fire District #1 for all outdoor burning regulations and enforcement.
