DESCRIPTION

The Planning Commission consists of seven members, each serving a three-year term, who are responsible for reviewing development proposals for compliance with the City's adopted plans and development policies, receives reports from City staff, conducts public hearings, and makes recommendations to the City Council in the following areas:
  • Long-range plans and land use maps for the City
  • Plats and development plans proposed for property within the City
  • Zoning and rezoning of property within the City
  • Special Uses and Conditional Uses proposed for property within the City
  • Regulations governing subdivisions of land
  • Zoning Ordinance regulations

 

SCHEDULE AND ATTENDANCE
 
The Planning Commission meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
 
Appointees violate the City's board and commissions attendance policy if they receive notice of meetings and without excuse miss three consecutive meetings or attend fewer than two-thirds (2/3) of the regular or special meetings of the board or commission on which they serve within the twelve month period following the member's appointment, or an anniversary date thereof. "Excuse" shall mean more than inconvenience and includes illness or family emergency. Business commitments shall not be a good excuse.
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Preferred candidates for appointment shall be:
  • At least 18 years of age or older
  • A registered voter
  • A resident of the City of Gardner, or be otherwise connected to the community in terms of property ownership, business affairs or by offering a unique and necessary expertise
Prior to submitting an application, interested individuals are encouraged to attend at least one meeting of the board or commission for which they are applying, so as to understand the mission of the body and the time commitment involved.
 
An individual is only eligible for appointment to, and may serve as, a member of only one board or commission at any given time.
 

When an individual has served for a period of eight consecutive years on one particular body, that member generally will not be eligible for reappointment until the member has vacated the position for one full term. Board or commission members may be reappointed beyond the eight year limit under exceptional circumstances

COMPENSATION

Appointees serve on a volunteer basis and shall not be compensated for their services, but may be reimbursed for expenses in carrying out their duties.
